The SASM office is notified of all deaths under the care of a surgeon. The SASM team initiates the deaths onto the eSASM system and a notification email is sent to the appropriate surgeon to complete the case in eSASM.

To help facilitate the audit an electronic data capture system (eSASM) was developed by the Information Services Division (ISD) that all consultants are able to access. All stages of the process are completed electronically (initiation, form completion, assessment and review) and allows for completion of a more timely audit process.
A number of improvements have been identified and will be implemented over the coming months. We are continually looking at ways to improve the service that we offer. Should you have any feedback on eSASM then please contact the SASM office.
Annual reports are produced by the SASM office for the preceding years's cases i.e. 2009 data was reported in September 2010
